Women are set to play a key role in the prawn production project and other agriculture initiatives. President Ali made this disclosure at the Private Sector Commission Limited 32 Annual General Meeting on May 22.

“We are trying to bring together at least 300 young people, 50% of whom must be women, to own the project.’

Moreover, the involvement of women and young people in several agriculture initiatives that form part of the Agriculture Entrepreneurship Project is being aided through the use of technology and innovative agriculture models.

Plans are in place to demonstrate the viability of the project through the establishment of 10 one-acre ponds.

The prawns project being developed at Onverwagt, Region Five is poised to produce 12 tonnes of Vannamei prawns per crop. The yield per season is estimated to be valued at $48 million.
