A young mother of one was released on $100,000 station bail, after being arrested for deliberately setting a Norton Street, Wortmanville house on fire.

The woman, who also resided in the house, was captured in CCTV footage attempting to start the fire through a window. The building was occupied by fifteen people and was owned by one Carlton Holder.

Kimberly Blades, an occupant of the bottom flat of the building where the fire was set, noted that there was no dispute over the property.

The now homeless persons are confused as to why the woman committed the act of arson, as they were reported to have good relations.

Wednesday’s fire, which started around 06:40hrs, was reported to be the second attempt and resulted in severe damage to the entire bottom flat of the house.

The Guyana Police Force ranks are carrying out further investigations into the matter.
