The construction of the four-lane Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge is set to commence in August. The Ministry of Public Works announced that China Railway Construction Corporation Limited will be undertaking the construction of the bridge for US$35 million.
The bridge will be built in the same location as the existing bridge and will have a maximum horizontal clearance of 32 meters and a vertical clearance of 11.5 meters.
Moreover, a temporary trestle bridge will be erected to prevent disruptions in the flow of traffic. The precast beam yard will expedite construction, allowing the substructure and superstructure to be built simultaneously, potentially reducing project duration and improving safety
Upon completion, the bridge will aid in improving trade between Guyana and Brazil.
