The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Guyana has issued a call for consultancy firms to undertake a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) as part of the National Action Plan for Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining in the country.

This initiative aims to assess the environmental impact of gold mining activities and devise strategies to mitigate any adverse effects. The successful consultancy firm will play an integral role in this process by supporting the development of the SEA through a participatory approach.

Key components of the project include conducting public stakeholder workshops and consultations in Georgetown and the six mining districts. The purpose of the workshops is to engage the various stakeholders, including government agencies, miners, NGOs, and CSOs, to gather inputs and discuss alternative proposals.

In an effort to streamline the procurement process, UNDP-Guyana has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) through its new supplier portal system, UNDP Quantum. Consultancy firms interested in undertaking the project are invited to submit their bids by May 17th, 2024, at 10:00 AM (New York time).

The reference number for this procurement is UNDP-GUY-00040. Consultancy firms already registered with the supplier portal system can access the RFP directly by searching for the negotiation using the provided reference number. For those who are new to the system, registration instructions are available in the user guide, accessible through the Supplier Registration link.

In case of any discrepancies regarding the deadline, the date indicated in the portal will prevail. Bidders are advised to stay informed and submit their questions or requests for support through the system’s messaging feature or by contacting the designated procurement associate at procurement.gy@undp.org.
