Turkey Strengthens Diplomatic Ties with Guyana: New Non-Resident Ambassador Accredited

Adding to the building list of ambassadors of countries to Guyana, the Turkish Ambassador was accredited on Wednesday by President Irfaan Ali. 

President Ali was presented with the Letters of Credence from Her Excellency Bengü Yiğitgüden during her accreditation ceremony at the Office of the President on February 14. 

Yiğitgüden will serve as the Turkish Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Guyana. 

The Republic of Türkiye and the Cooperative Republic of Guyana have established diplomatic relations since May 2, 1973.  

During the ceremony, President Ali called for improved bilateral relations between Guyana and the West Asian country and expressed his hopes for Turkey’s support in the development of Guyana’s manufacturing sector.  

He noted that Guyana can benefit from Turkey’s technological drive, as the country is very technically advanced in research and development activities.  

Shortly after the ceremony, the new ambassador met with Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh at the Ministry of Finance.  

Dr. Singh welcomed Yiğitgüden to the country and congratulated her on her appointment. The two figures used the opportunity to discuss the avenues for the strengthening and advancement of diplomatic relations between the two countries
