On January 30, the Chancellor of the Judiciary of Guyana (ag), Madam Justice Yonette Cummings-Edwards advised the Bar of the launch of the eLitigation platform at the Court of Appeal.

The system is expected to be launched in phases, with this ‘soft launch’ allowing for a period of live testing ahead of the full launch of the platform to the public.

In the announcement, the body expressed excitement for this transformative development in the judicial landscape.

All attorneys seeking to file any new appeals are expected to go through this new digital system. The eLitigation platform went live at midnight on January 29 and became operational on January 30.

Access to the eLitigation platform will be through a Service Bureau at the Reception Desk of the Court of Appeal.

Filing costs will still be attached to the processing of the forms, and the Law office/Attorney-at-law will be required to deposit funds with the Court. This will go to their standing accounts on the platform, and fees will be deducted to cover filing costs.

Any case filed on or before January 29 will continue on the paper-based system, and will not be required to go through the eLitigation platform.
