Scores of Guyanese Welcome Cricket Star Home

Scores of Guyanese assembled at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport last evening to welcome the Guyanese Cricket sensation Shamar Joseph, to the sounds of tassa drums and melodious singing. Joseph over the past weeks has been warming the hearts of the nation with his exemplary performance game after game at the Test Match Cricket Series. He made his mark and is now internationally recognized for playing a crucial role in the West Indies’ first win after twenty-seven (27) years. 

Charles Ramson, Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport, along with ministry officials, the President of the Guyana Cricket Board, Bissoondyal Singh, and other board members, attended a ceremony honoring the Baracara raised cricket sensation. Also present were members of his family, two sons and relatives.  

In his featured presentation the Minister of Culture Youth and Sports Hon Charles Ramson posited that “Shamar’s performance is God’s work. “Ramson added that “Shamar is not just an inspiration to the people of Guyana or people of Baracara,” but rather he “is now an inspiration to the world”. 

Joseph expressed his gratitude to those present and stated that he is happy and proud to have represented not only his country but the Caribbean.
