On January 30, District Crop Extension Officer attached to the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI), Aaron Leitch, lost his life following an accident on the Tacama Trail, Ituni.

Police stated that a pick-up vehicle #PAC 3958, owned by the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission (GLSC), and attached to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), was occupied by Gregory Grenville, a 39-year-old from Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Arafat Fazal, a 37-year-old Bangladesh nation, and Aaron Leitch.

It is said that the pickup, driven by 50-year-old Nigel Hutson of Georgetown, was proceeding east along the northern side of the Tacama trail at a fast rate. While attempting a left bend, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it ended up on the southern parapet.

The vehicle then toppled several times before settling, and the driver and occupants received injuries on their bodies.

Public-spirited citizens picked up the occupants and took them to the Linden Hospital Complex, and it was noted that all except Leitch were conscious.

At the Hospital, Fazal was admitted for injuries to his body and later transferred to GPHC for further medical attention and is in stable condition.

Grenville and Hutson were treated at Linden and sent away, while Leitch was pronounced dead.

The driver is assisting the Police in the ongoing investigation.
