Misunderstanding over cellular phone leaves labourer dead

A 36-year-old miner/ businessman of Haslington New Scheme East Coast Demerara is on the run after allegedly murdering 29-year-old Otis Andey Haimchand. The deceased who resided at Lot 183 Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara was a labourer. 

According to a statement from the police, “the suspect and the victim (Haimchand) had a misunderstanding over a cellular phone. At around 21:00 hrs. last night, the suspect and the deceased had another altercation where they scuffled and Haimchand tried to escape. The suspect followed and dealt Haimchand a stab to his upper left side chest.  Haimchand fell to the ground, after which the suspect escaped the scene on foot.” 

An examination of the body revealed a wound to the left side upper chest area in the region of the heart. The body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted. 

According to the Police, “several persons were questioned, and certain information received’. Investigations are ongoing.
