Staff of the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Local Government are being urged to examine the existing gaps in the road construction process and come up with solutions to fill those gaps

This was expressed by Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill in his address to staff during a two-day training programme at the Guyana Mariott on Thursday.

Staff members of the two ministries received training in the areas of procurement and finance, survey assessment, durability and reliability of road works, and flexible pavement systems as part of efforts to equip them with the skills they need to adapt to the country’s evolving infrastructural landscape and fully comprehend the government’s long term development agenda.

Minister Edghill told staff members that prudent financial spending is imperative for development projects.

“People’s patience has an expiry date. Your number one priority is to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.”

The need for better communication between engineers and the clerk of works to prevent delays was also underscored by the Ministry of Public Works’ Permanent Secretary Vladim Persaud.

$200 billion dollars was allocated in the 2024 budget for transformative infrastructural projects.
