On January 23, 2024, a large number of the prison guards stationed at the Mazaruni Prison facility engaged in Emergency Response training to improve their safety and do their duties more effectively.

The training program, according to Director of Prisons Nicklon Elliot, is “necessary to guarantee that the mandate of the service is fulfilled in terms of maintaining public safety and handling crises inside the prison.”

Officers are now more prepared to handle high-risk inmates and emergencies in the prison thanks to tactical and firearms training, restraining techniques, and an awareness of the surrounding area, according to Kevin Pilgrim, Deputy Director of Prisons, who is in charge of overseeing officers’ training.

The emergency response training ” is intended to be a vital component of incident management and prevention, enhancing prison security and safeguarding both personnel and prisoners.”
