A man identified as “Ken” and his two-month-old son were struck down around 17:00hrs on Monday by a motorcyclist
The accident occurred on Saffon Street, where Ken and his family were walking towards the nearby market to purchase some items.
Eyewitness reports revealed that his wife and other relatives made it safely across the road, but as he attempted to cross with the toddler in his arms, a southbound motorcycle slammed into him.
Ken allegedly attempted to position the child so that he took the brunt of the hit and to save the child from receiving injuries from being flung away.
One eyewitness claimed, “he tried to make the baby fall on him.”
Unfortunately, he was not able to stop the child from falling to the road. Upon being picked up by eyewitnesses, it was revealed that the child’s skin remained mostly unharmed, but a section of his head was swollen.
The father was seen bleeding heavily from the back of his head, while the motorcyclist lay close to his XR bike some distance away, with multiple injuries to his face and body.
The baby was rushed by public-spirited citizens to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), while the two men remained to wait for the ambulance.
Some persons at the scene were distressed by the length of time of took the Guyana Fire Service Ambulance to arrive, as they didn’t show up until half an hour later.
The Emergency Response Team (EMT) attributed this to being given the wrong directions initially. Both men were then rushed to the Hospital, both in a conscious state.
