On Friday, January 19th, members of the Guyana Real Estate Agents Authority (GREAA) received their Instruments of Appointment from the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond.
The Real Estate Agent and Brokers Bill was passed in August of 2023 and allows for interpretation of the practice of real estate business. It establishes the Real Estate Agents Authority and determines a registration process for persons seeking to engage in real estate business.
The GREAA comprises of five members and has the responsibility to determine the qualifications for real estate agents and brokers, issuing, renewing, revocating, and canceling licenses, among other functions.
Minister Walrond encouraged the members to conduct their functions with the highest levels of integrity and fairness.
The recipients of the instruments were the representative of the Ministry of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce, Sharon Roopchand-Edwards, a representative from the Realtor Association of Guyana, Chief Samsair, a representative of the Competition and Consumer Affairs Commission, Dhaneshwar Deonarine, a representative of the Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Ayana Fable, and representative of the Private Sector Commission, Samantha Reid.
