Under the Adequate Housing and Urban Development Programme (AHUAP), several communities in Region Three have benefitted from investments in infrastructure exceeding $867 million.
AHUAP, through works overseen by their Projects Department, aims to improve the lives of low-income residents in urban and peri-urban Georgetown through improved access to housing and basic infrastructure.
According to the Central Housing & Planning Authority, over the past few years, housing schemes such as Schoonoord, Parfaite Harmonie, Westminster, Onderneeming, Rect-door-Zee, and Lust-En-Rust have witnessed the construction of 11,697 meters of primary and secondary access roads.
Additionally, a total of 2,127 meters of reinforced concrete drains and 49 reinforced concrete culverts were also done through the project, as well as, 570 meters of paved sidewalks at critical locations such as a secondary school and police station.
In the near future, communities in the region will see the installation of 3.7 kilometers of solar-integrated LED streetlights to provide illumination and enhance security measures.
The investment, which is more than $25 million, is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
