More than 500 registrations were received for the Medium Scale Mining Lottery held by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission in Bartica, Region 7 on Friday, April 26.
In a release, the Ministry of Natural Resources noted that this was the second lottery of medium-scale mining properties held within the past three years.
The number of registrations received as well as the number of people that attended the event to witness the allocation of blocks was viewed as commendable and an indicator of the mining sector’s interest in the event.
Minister of Natural Resource, Hon. Vickram Bharrat, Mr. Newell Dennison, Commissioner of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) along with other senior and technical staff of the Ministry and agency were present for the lottery.
In an effort to ensure transparency and fairness, the GGMC conducted preliminary studies to identify areas with mineral potential thus instilling confidence in participants and investors.
