On Sunday, President Irfaan Ali via his Facebook page provided an update of the progress being made on Guyana’s premier airport hotel, the Courtyard by Marriott. The construction of this hotel adds to the rapidly increasing number of hotels currently under construction in the Region 4 area.

The Courtyard by Marriott Hotel will contribute some one hundred fifty (150) rooms to the current number of rooms available to house the country’s visitors. Its development was born out of the launching of the Expression of Interest for hotel developers in 2021, and it satisfies the government’s objective to add 2000 hotel rooms to the country.

Cardinal Investments is constructing the six-story hotel on 2.5 acres of government-leased land near the country’s main airport and Timehri roundabout. This hotel, located just a minute away from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, is intended to lodge a wide range of people, from airline crews and diplomats to tourists. It is expected to satisfy the growing needs of the nation’s tourism industry, which is experiencing more connecting flights as well as regional and international conventions and general visits.

At the signing of the construction deal in 2021, Marriott’s Chief Development Officer, Laurent de Kousemaeker, acknowledged the company’s tremendous joy in this project, which would serve as an expansion of their brand.

The hotel will not only benefit the tourism sector but will also help to beautify the airport’s surroundings and provide training and employment for 200 people when it opens.
