Dr Leslie Ramsammy in the capacity as the advisor to the Minister of Health alongside members of the Austrian engineering firm VAMED, met with Mr. Kenji Okamura, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other officials yesterday. This engagement was aimed at the robust development of Guyana’s health sector
During this meeting, which was also attended by Senior Minister with responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh, the progress of the Maternal and Pediatric Hospital Site at Ogle on the East Coast of Demerara, was discussed.
Dr. Ramsammy expressed that the Ministry is seeking to improve maternal and child health and provide accessible health services in remote areas and hinterland communities. Further he highlighted the recent introduction of modern health services like telemedicine, telepsychotherapy, teleophthalmology, and teleradiology.
The maternity and pediatric facility will be the first of its kind in the Caribbean, according to Dr. Ramsammy. Mr. Walter Puhringer, the project manager at VAMED, gave an update on the progress of the construction of hospital. The hospital is projected to be completed by 2026.
