Guyana and Jamaica forge Media Partnership

Guyana and Jamaica have ratified a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing cooperation in media, mass communication, and public affairs. 

The ceremonial signing was held at the Cara Lodge Hotel in Georgetown. 

The MoU which focuses on the exchange of knowledge and improving capabilities in mass communication, is reflective of the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations. The MoU not only emphasizes the pivotal role of media professionals in disseminating information but also signifies a commitment by both governments to cultivate an environment conducive to impartial and precise reporting. 

Moreover, both Guyana and Jamaica have recognized the important role that the media plays in the advancement of society. 

Minister Kwame McCoy, who has the responsibility of overseeing Public Affairs within the Office of the Prime Minister, underscored the importance of aligning information and communication strategies with the broader Caribbean integration objectives outlined by CARICOM. 

The Minister also noted the significance of leveraging Jamaica’s innovative methodologies to complement Guyana’s strategies for enhanced efficacy. A comprehensive training regimen with be implemented for media professionals to facilitate additional collaborative ventures as part of the MoU 

Jamaica’s Minister Robert Nesta Morgan, who oversees information within the Office of the Prime Minister, stressed the necessity for collective efforts to combat misinformation in the media.
