Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo in his press conference yesterday stated that the financial books of the Guyana Teaches Union has not been audited for over thirty years. This follows the Ministry of Education’s decision to discontinue their role of withdrawing the GTU fees from teachers’ salaries and paying them to the GTU. Mr. Bishop asserted that an audit is included in the treasurer’s annual report and the executive members and other teachers are privy to it.

Mr. Bishop reported that the teachers will not be moved by the treats of deductions being made to their salaries and rather they will stand their ground until the government meets with the Guyana Teachers’ Union and meet all their demands. Further he stated that the GTU is asking the Ministry of Education to meet the remaining demands as they are of grave importance.
