A fatal accident that occurred around 20:30hrs on Friday, January 22, claimed the life of 37-year-old Garfield Bridgemohan of Lot 95 School Street, Queenstown, Essequibo Coast.
Motorcar #PXX 9235, owned by Frank Anthony Ramsahoye of Parika, was proceeding north on the Queenstown Public Road, while the deceased was on a pedal cycle heading in the same direction.
Ramsahoye claimed that while driving, he suddenly saw a man on a bicycle riding, who made a ‘sudden lean’ and collided with the front left side of his vehicle and then hit the windshield.
He claimed the pedal cyclist then fell onto the road, where he received injuries about his body and seemed unconscious. The victim was picked up and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
The body rests at the Suddie Public Hospital’s Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The driver was arrested and is in custody at the Anna Regina Police Station, while the vehicle is lodged at the Suddie Police Station.
The investigation is ongoing.
