ExxonMobil Guyana President, Alistair Routledge, disclosed plans to pause operations at the Liza Destiny and Liza Unity Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels for two weeks each in July and August.

The primary purpose for the halt in operations is to facilitate the connection of a natural gas pipeline destined for onshore facilities

Routledge noted the pivotal role of an installation vessel in linking risers, enabling the transportation of natural gas from the Stabroek Block to power and natural gas plants in Wales, West Bank Demerara.

Moreover, this critical task is scheduled to be completed by July or August.

ExxonMobil’s ongoing pipeline construction, which is expected to reduce energy costs, is progressing steadily.

The onshore segment is said to be 68% complete while the offshore segment is 70% complete.

The hotly debated Gas-to-Energy project has been marred by delays but despite this government officials are adamant that it will be a reality in 2025.

Nevertheless, once operational, the pipeline is expected to supply natural gas to a 300-megawatt power plant in Wales.

The Liza Unity FPSO now produces 252,000 barrels of oil per day; during the shutdown, improvements and maintenance will increase production capacity
