Bruster’s Ice Cream has announced the temporary closure of all its locations in Guyana due to a cold storage malfunction that compromised their perishable inventory. The company noted in a public announcement on April 6 that the unreliable supply of electricity might have caused the malfunction of their cold storage

“We suspect that the prolonged erratic power supply in the area caused damage to our cold storage equipment, resulting in significant losses.”

With an anticipated reopening date of April 20, the popular ice cream chain added that it is working assiduously to not only repair the damaged equipment but their inventory as well. An apology was issued to staff and customers who will be affected by the closure.

In recent weeks, the frequency of power outages across the country has significantly increased with some communities being left without electricity for several hours. President Ali last week met with the board of directors and management of GPL to express his dissatisfaction with the electricity company’s performance.
