Brazilian Army increasing presence on Guyana-Venezuela border

Amid the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy, the Brazilian Army mobilizes forces along the border between the two countries. 

First, among a series of deployments, a unit consisting of 50 personnel, 14 4×4 wheeled armored vehicles Iveco LMV-BR “Guaicurus”, along with 18 vehicles of various specifications. The units left from the 20th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Campo Grande, escorted by the 9th Army Police Battalion.  

In addition to this, several 6×6 EE-09 Cascavel reconnaissance armored vehicles were also deployed. 

They gathered at the Campo Grande under the Logistics Command, where they underwent preventive maintenance by the 9th Maintenance Battalion. 

The equipment will travel the 2,200 kilometers from Campo Grande to Boa Vista to join the 18th Mechanized Cavalry Regiment there. 

Brazil is making an effort to increase its presence in the area, as a result of the geopolitical tension between Guyana and Venezuela stemming from the dispute over the Essequibo region.
