Chairman of Banks DIH Limited, Clifford Reis, informed shareholders at the company’s 68th Annual General Meeting that legal action is being considered as a last resort to address issues arising from vendors around its Stabroek Market, Demico House location.

Reis expressed concern over declining business and misuse of facilities, noting a decrease in restaurant patrons and abuse of restrooms. Despite unsuccessful attempts to seek intervention from the Mayor and City Council and the Guyana Police Force, Banks DIH is now contemplating legal action in response to the challenges faced.

“The number of clients going into our restaurants has decreased. The restrooms and toilets are abused,” Reis complained. He further stated that they cannot continue to run a business under the present conditions.

Despite numerous complaints and efforts to remove vendors from Demico House, Banks DIH has faced persistent challenges. The historic Demico House, dating back to the 19th century, currently houses a fast-food parlour, a sports bar, and a hotel.
