On January 30, the Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan A. Edghill received a courtesy call from the High Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Australia to Guyana, Sonya Koppe.
In May 2023, President Dr. Ifraan Ali accepted the letter of credence from the new Commissioner. At that time, the President highlighted that Guyana is aligned with many of the policies and programmes promoted by Australia.
Koppe also serves as Australia’s High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago and is accredited to several other countries in the Caribbean Community.
Guyana formally established diplomatic relations with Australia in 1973.
