On Saturday, the Minister of Health commissioned the recently refurbished Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the New Amsterdam Hospital. Dr. Frank Anthony during his presentation at the recently concluded 2024 Budget Debate pointed to the projected initiatives of the Ministry of Health and more so the current administration as “transformation in action”.

Dr. Frank Anthony in his featured address at the commissioning stated that the Ministry has implemented a programme to expand NICU to all regional Hospitals. This will contribute to saving several premature infants and delivering high-quality care to infants throughout all regions of Guyana.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, The New Amsterdam Regional Hospital has undergone substantial construction. It stated that the hospital has grown from five beds to twelve, and it is now completely equipped with contemporary equipment, such as incubators, radiant warmers, infusion pumps, pediatric and neonatal ventilators, and backup oxygen lines.
