Sherod Duncan, Opposition Member of Parliament, delivered his remarks on the 2024 National Budget on Thursday afternoon.
In his address, Duncan stated that the plans to build the Diamond Access road were already prepared before PPP/C’s return to the Government, where they subsequently built it. This is why no other structure was ever built in that area, he elaborated.
Highlighting several untruths spewed by the Government, he stated that the Government officials went to Lethem and stood on roads that the previous administration built and said that they did nothing for them.
Duncan emphasized the abandonment of certain initiatives and areas by the PPP/C, calling their actions unconstitutional. He mentioned that there are several such cases, ranging from the appointment of persons to the office to the treatment of Haitian migrants.
In his address following Duncan, the Honorable Bishop Juan Edghill, Minister of Public Works, contested the points presented by the Opposition MP.
“If the APNU+AFC MP is honest about not liking the budget, he can take out the 62 concrete roads currently being built in Linden by the PPP/C government, and the several other asphaltic concrete roads being built in Linden because we are spending the budget money on Linden,” he rebutted.
Minister Edghill stated that the Government’s goal is to modernize and transform Guyana, in an attempt to disassociate from the title of “old Guyana”.
