Since the establishment of the first Zara Computer Center in 2012, they have expanded to almost every Region in the country. There are currently fourteen centres across Guyana, offering free computer studies and training programs.
According to the Guyana Police Force, more than 7000 persons received free training from the established centres in 2023. The Coordinator of the Guyana Police Force Academy Zara Computer Centres, Assistant Superintendent, Gladwin Hanover, coined 2023 as ‘the best year’ for the initiative.
Some of the courses offered at the Zara facilities are Foundation and Advanced courses in Microsoft Office 2019, PC Repair and Maintenance and Web Page Design.
On January 15th, 2024, the Force launched its online platform, which allowed persons to complete classes online.
Civilians who received training were able to attain jobs through the Guyana Police Force after completing their courses.
Assistant Superintendent Raun Clarke, Commandant of the Guyana Police Force’s Academy (Georgetown Campus), indicated that the Force currently has 104 recruits across the training colleges/campuses.
In September last, the Guyana Police Force made history as its academy is the first public entity that has attained Accreditation, which paved the way for ranks to be recognized regionally and internationally.
As such, the academy will continue to position itself as a beacon of academic support, empowering members of the GPF and the general public.
