Taxi Driver charged for death of passenger

Gordon Vantull, a 57-year-old taxi driver of Section ‘B’ Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was charged on Tuesday, January 23, for causing death by dangerous driving. 

At around 02:35hrs on Sunday, January 21, Vantull, who was driving motor car PKK 4206, was reportedly driving at a fast rate along the Beterverwagting Public Road, where he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a median. 

Denise Paul, a 54-year-old housewife of 1139 Bare Root, East Coast Demerara, who occupied the front passenger seat, was flung out of the vehicle and received injuries about her body. 

The woman was examined by a doctor who was summoned to the scene and was pronounced dead. 

Vantull pleaded not guilty to the charges read to him by Magistrate Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court and was placed on $450,000 bail. 

The matter was adjourned to March 5th, 2024.
