More ICT Hubs built as part of the ICT Access & E-Services for Hinterland, Poor & Remote Communities Project

Warapoka, located in the Barama River, saw the completion of another ICT hub, a fruit of the ICT Access and E-Services for Hinterland, Poor, and Remote Communities Project. The project manager from the Office of the Prime Minister, Ronald Harsawack, was in charge of managing the installation and implementation procedures. 

The past two months saw the completion of several ICT hubs in various parts of Regions one, seven and nine. Maruranau Village, South Rupununi, Kaburi 72 Miles, Kwaimatta, Apoteri, Rupununi River, Wallaba village, Wauna, Sand Creek and Lethem.  

Following the completion of these hubs, a series of training sessions were organized to inform both the facilitators and the users on how to maintain and operate them effectively.  

The ICT Access & E-Services for Hinterland, Poor & Remote Communities Project is a collaboration between the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs.  

 The Guyana REDD + Investment Fund (GRIF) is providing the majority of the project’s funding, which comes to over US $17 million 

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister noted that “the project aims to improve access to ICT in the Hinterland, impoverished, and remote communities; strengthen the environment for e-government policies and laws; facilitate public services and information through e-communication; and expand the ability of these communities to take advantage of e-services.”
