A canoe carrying six students of the Eteringbang Primary School sank along the Cuyuni River in the vicinity of Eteringbang Landing at about 16:45hrs on Tuesday.
It was reported that the children were returning from school to their homes along the Venezuelan border when their canoe took in water and sank.
Luckily, this was noticed by public-spirited persons who went to their assistance and were able to rescue them all.
The children, who ranged from ages six to eleven years, were later seen and examined by Doctor Surujpaul at the Eteringbang Health Center in the presence of their parents and were thereafter sent away.
They all appeared to be in good health but were evidently traumatized.
The four girls and two boys were from San Martin, Venezuela. The names of the six children who survived the ordeal are Keysha Sanchez (9-y/o), Keitly Sanchez (6 y/o), Elizabeth Camping (8 y/o), Enio Random (11 y/o), Eliana Random (8 y/o), Ashili Random (6 y/o). The students are all from San Martin, Venezuela.
