Among the sector allocations of the 2024 Budget, the Government will commence the first phase of eliminating outstanding loans owed by graduates of UG
On Monday at the Arthur Chung Conference Center, Liliendaal, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh presented the country’s 2024 National Budget, which totaled a grand $1.146 trillion.
Earlier, President Ali indicated the Government’s plan to provide free Education at the University of Guyana by 2025. This will be rolled out in phases, starting with the graduates that have pre-existing loans.
The University of Guyana will be supported in their operations by an allocation of $4.1 billion. In 2024, new programs are expected to be offered at the state university, in areas such as biopharma, cyber-security and earth and climate sciences.
Of the 3,520 students who graduated from the University in 2023, 70 per cent were already employed at the time of graduation.
