A schoolteacher and a bank teller are behind bars in connection with a fraudulent withdrawal from Republic Bank’s Linden Branch. The accused, Donna Edwards, a 44-year-old teacher from West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and Tyrell Davis, a 19-year-old bank teller from Wismar, Linden, were apprehended on November 20 and 22, respectively.

The detective from the CID Headquarters who led the investigation charged the duo on Friday with conspiracy to commit a felony and demanding property upon a forged instrument, under Sections 33 and 278(b) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01. This charge comes after an intricate probe into irregularities at the bank’s Linden Branch.

Tyrell Davis employed as a teller at the branch where the illicit transaction occurred, confessed to authorities that he bypassed standard banking procedures to facilitate the withdrawal by Edwards. During the investigation, Davis revealed he was approached by an acquaintance, whose identity remains undisclosed, to aid in this deceptive operation. In return for his assistance, Davis claimed to have received a payment of $300,000.

Donna Edwards, the recipient of the fraudulently withdrawn funds, was implicated as a co-conspirator in this scheme. Both Edwards and Davis appeared in the Linden Magistrate’s Court today, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges levied against them. The court ordered their remand to prison, with the case adjourned until December 4, 2023.
