The number of females enrolled in The Board of Industrial Training programmes for the 2024 training cycle aimed at residents of Buxton, South Sophia and Georgetown exceeded the number of males who opted to enrol in the programmes.
A release from the Board of Industrial Training this afternoon indicated that of the 70 trainees enrolled in the programmes offered by BIT, 46 of the trainees are females while 24 are males.
The Board of Industrial Training, this afternoon, commenced its 2024 training cycle with the launch of three programmes in Region Four.
Recently, there has been an increase in the number of women opting to learn skills in non-traditional areas.
Moreover, the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) has the mandate of helping persons to build capacity through training in Technical and Vocational Education
Helping people to build capacity through Technical and Vocational Education and Training in both hard and soft skills for all genders to become certified and secure work is a primary area of focus for BIT.
Minister of Labour, Hon. Joseph Hamilton, in his visit to two of the training facilities encouraged participants to take full advantage of the training opportunity and strive to complete the course despite any challenges that they might face.
Persons 15 years and above are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity when the BIT training programme is offered in their communities.
“$500 million has been allocated for the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), in keeping with the aim of upskilling the labour force of Guyana for 2024. Over the past three years, BIT has certified about 11,275 persons in various occupational areas”
