On Sunday afternoon the groundbreaking ceremony for the 300 million Dollars Hotel on Carifesta Avenue was held. The Georgetown Seafront Resort and Conference Center will be constructed by the Qatari Asset Group on the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) Ground and will house over 300 rooms.
President Dr Irfaan Ali in his feature address expressed how beneficial this mammoth accomplishment will be for Guyana’s Tourism and Hospitality Sector. The President underlined that his accomplishment is testament to his administration’s commitment to diversifying the investments made in Guyana.
Further he highlighted that the relationship between Guyana and Qatar has produced many fruitful projects like the Georgetown Waterfront Resort and Conference Center and the projected Qatar-funded Stadium in Region 3. The president stated that the Guyana Qatar initiative seeks to address several key areas that will aid in the development of both countries. These areas include food security, oil and gas, tourism, hospitality services etc
Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Oneidge Walrond, highlighted the significance of the groundbreaking event stating that it is extraordinary achievement for Guyana’s hospitality sector.
Minister Walrond expressed how the availability of more rooms will open the door to more airlifts, as tourists will be drawn to world-class accommodation. She stated this facility will make it more feasible for Guyana to host larger regional conferences
The Tourism Minister added that the government is not just committed to the development of all sectors but rather the sustainable development in all sectors, as they seek to strike the balance between economic development and the protection and preservation of the environment for Guyana’s future generations.
