The Nigerian national, Bethel Chimezie, who caused a shooting incident at the State House on December 15, 2022, was sentenced on Monday to three months imprisonment along with three years of supervised probation.

Chimezie was arrested by Assistant Superintendent Rodwell Sarabo on January 16, 2023, for the offence of Discharging a Loaded Firearm with Intent at State House, Carmichael Street, Georgetown. The act was committed on Quincy Cummings, who was at the scene at the time.

On Monday, the accused pleaded guilty before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate Court. There, he was sentenced to three months imprisonment and three years of supervised probation.

This sentence was granted considering the maximum sentencing guideline of fifteen months and the time the defendant spent on remand.

The accused has additional matters pending before the court and will be required to appear in those cases.
