Patrica Blackman, of 135 King Edward’s Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, was detained when it was discovered that she was trying to smuggle fifteen (15) grams of cannabis into the Lusignan jail on the East Coast of Demerara on Monday in the morning. The marijuana was skillfully tucked away into plastic straws and then into multiple toothpaste containers, out of sight for the typical individual.

The hidden cannabis was discovered by the prison officers during a routine check at the arrival check point at the Lusignan Prison. The Guyana Prison service reported that Ms. Blackman has been taken into police custody and an investigation was launched.

The GPS urges civilians to recognize the dangers of smuggling contraband within prison walls and emphasizes the serious consequences of such an offense.
