Approximately 232 residents of Kamana, North Pakaraimas, Region 8, will now benefit from an improved water supply system valued at $48 million.

The Kamana project saw the drilling of a 120 meters deep potable water well, the installation of 3000 meters of 50mm (2’) PVC pipes, 1000 meters of 19mm (3/4’) PVC pipes with 50 Services connection, the construction of concrete slab and installation of storage tanks, and the installation of a Photovoltaic pumping system and perimeter fence.

Prior to this new system, the community sourced water from a small spring, which was not able to provide water for all residents.

At the event, the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, engaged residents of the community and encouraged them to play their part in preserving the system. He also reviewed the projected updates of the region’s facilities stemming from the 2024 National Budget.

Minister Croal shared that two new wells are expected to be constructed in the region, one in Mahdia and the other in Campbell Town.

Also in Region 8, the residents of Sandhill will benefit from a $36 million water supply system, set to cater to the community’s 129 residents.

In a meeting with the residents at the village benab, Minister Croal addressed issues raised that affect them, and listened to their suggestions for solutions.

The Sandhill water system saw the construction of a concrete intake pumping chamber at a creek source, the installation of 800 meters of 50mm (2”) PVC pipes, and 400 meters of 19mm (3/4”) PVC pipes with 20 service connections.

Additionally, there was the construction of a concrete slab and the installation of storage tanks, and the facility is powered by a photovoltaic pumping system.

Prior to this system, the residents relied on captured rainwater for their daily needs.

The Minister commissioned the two facilities and was accompanied by the Guyana Water Inc. Hinterland Service Director, Ramchand Jailall and other regional staff.

Both projects were constructed by Ramesh Kissoon of Ramesh Kissoon Contracting Services. In addition to the commissioning, a donation of sporting gears was made by R. Kissoon Contracting Services to the communities.
