Dr Mark Lyte President of the GTU stated that he was hoping teachers would not have to be protesting on day four but would remain resolute in their stance. He stated that the teachers have gotten more strength from the support of cooperative society and the public.

In response to the extent of parental support received by teachers at the 21 Brickdam location and other locations countrywide, he stated that parents have attempted to make their identities as parents known by displaying plaque cards that read “I am a parent” followed by their thoughts. Scores of parents have called on the Ministry of Education and the Government by extension to engage with the GTU. Mr. Lyte underscored that parental support symbolizes the value placed on teachers and is positive that parents will support GTU if the strike progresses.

He emphasized the difficulty faced by numerous headteachers who have been denied the opportunity of surrendering the school’s keys to both the ministry of education and the police station.

The Caribbean Union of Teachers which is an umbrella body for twenty-six units across the Caribbean expressed supporting for the strike action being led by the Guyana Teachers’ Union. The president of C.U.T Dr. Garth Anderson is expected to address the nation on a special program hosted by the GTU
