Venezuelan Businesswoman Charged with Trafficking Gets 4 Years Jail Time

Mayelin Cordova, a 41-year-old Venezuelan Businesswoman of Byderado Road, Bartica appeared in court on Wednesday, facing a charge for trafficking of a Venezuelan national for the purpose of sexual exploitation.  

The Businesswoman was represented by Attorney-at-law Gomes-Richards, while Miss V. Mangalram appeared on behalf of the Prosecution. 

Cordova was ordered by Magistrate Crystal Lambert to pay $1.5 million in restitution to the victim and sentenced to four years imprisonment. 

Previously, Cordova was charged by the Guyana Police Force’s Trafficking in Persons Unit and found guilty of the offence of ‘Operating a Brothel’. For this she served six months in prison.
