The Sentence Management Board of the Prison Service visited Mazaruni Prison on Wednesday and expressed admiration for the inmates’ well-being and progress, saying they were impressed. Among those present were the Director of Prison Mr. Nicklon Elliott, Retired Major-General Norman McLean, and the Chairman of the Sentence Management Board, Captain Gouveia who posited that “I am totally impressed with this facility; it will improve overall security amongst prisoners and officers”
Gouveia highlighted that a clear indication of the government’s commitment to the security industry is its investment plan for state-of-the-art prisons that adhere to international security standards.
Mr. Gouveia stated that “the investment plan for the construction of state-of-the-art prison facilities meeting international standards, including security and safety systems demonstrate governments commitment towards the security sector.”
