Day four of the consideration of estimates and expenditures for the 2024 National Budget started with the scrutiny of the allocations for the Ministry of Education.

Along with the Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, the Committee of Supply perused the line items and discussed the projects that will be undertaken in the year.

The point was raised that several schools don’t have guidance counselors available to engage with the students.

In response, the Minister stated that “it is our policy to ensure we have guidance counsellors in every single secondary school, right now 86 of our 116 secondary schools already has guidance counsellors.”

Under the budgetary provisions for the Ministry of Education, rehabilitative works will be done on dormitories and teachers’ living quarters countrywide.

A total of $28.7 billion has been cleared for the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of educational buildings and facilities in 2024.
