An investigator attached to the Ministry of Natural Resources, joined by two other personnel acted on information received and intercepted two motor canters transporting stolen items.
The items were reportedly stolen by a group of five suspects, who conspired to steal a quantity of copper wires and other items, valued at $2 million, from Troy Resources at 14 Miles, Issano, Region #7. The items were reportedly stolen between January 18 and 19, 2024.
While being escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station in Linden, three of the five suspects managed to escape at the Kurupukari Crossing, while waiting to cross on the pontoon. The canter was left behind.
The remaining two suspects, a 32-year-old and a 16-year-old, were escorted, along with the canter, to the Mackenzie Police Station.
While being interviewed by Police ranks, the 32-year-old suspect stated that he was hired by one of the escaped suspects, to transport the stolen copper wires. For this, he was to be paid $250,000, with $100,000 being paid in advance.
The two suspects were placed into custody and the canter and stolen articles were lodged.
Investigations are ongoing.
