On January 29, sixty families of Laing Avenue, Georgetown received a $250,000 voucher to aid in repairs to their homes. Each unit owner or occupier will also receive $100,000 to assist with attached labour costs.
The ‘Laing Avenue Housing Grant initiative stems from a promise made by Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo in November of last year. The residents are expected to use the vouchers to redeem building materials to enhance their standard of living.
The distribution was done at the Ministry’s Central Housing and Planning Authority Camp Street, Georgetown Office, and amounted to $15 million. It is expected that some 200 families will benefit from this initiative.
The vouchers are all redeemable at Toolsie Persaud Ltd., Cemmax Procurement and Contracting, Gafsons Industries Ltd and National Hardware.
