The Guyanese own Construction company DuraVilla which specializes in Modular construction or off-site building construction will be supplying several CARICOM Countries with homes soon.
DuraVilla was founded almost two decades ago and is based on an eco-friendly modular housing technique that utilizes locally sourced and sustainably obtained hardwoods. Buildings constructed using this technology are completed indoors in a quality-controlled environment and then transported on site.
Mr. Rafeek Khan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of DuraVilla Homes Guyana, noted on Monday that the recently ended Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo, as well as the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting, provided access to new markets since leaders underlined the need for greater housing in their respective countries.
In response, DuraVilla Homes Guyana will build hundreds of homes for St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. The company will supply its biggest regional market Barbados with 100 houses monthly. Mr. Khan stressed the urgency of setting up warehouses in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Barbados to allow immediate assembly of the exported housing units.
The CEO stated that the most difficult aspect of using local wood species has been understanding the crucial function of transportation and logistics in the supply chain. To this end, he stated that the company intends to widen its raw material supply chain, as the construction of these eco-friendly homes is done in partnership with other organizations.
DuraVilla Homes aims to provide Guyanese citizens with affordable housing in line with the government’s goal. According to the CEO, the company will work with clients to provide two and three-bedroom residences priced between eight and ten million GYD.
